Candice's House & Candice Care are registered NDIS providers of Support Services. Read below to find out more about the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the first national support service of its kind throughout Australia and is aimed at providing funding directly to individuals with a disability to assist with support and service for enhancing everyday life.
The roll-out first commenced in 2016, and it is expected that the NDIS will provide 500,000 Australians who have a permanent and significant disability with funding for supports and services within the next five years.
How does it work?
The NDIS provides funding directly to Australians with a disability to meet their special needs, such as the purchase of a wheelchair and assistance at home. People who receive this funding are called NDIS Participants. Each Participant has their own individual NDIS Plan.
A NDIS Plan is a written agreement worked out with each Participant individually - it looks at how you are going in different areas of your life, what goals you would like to achieve and what kind of help and support you need.
Your plan determines your budget and what types of support are covered by it. You will have your Plan Manager and Support Coordinator who will help you with everything related to your plan, budget and finding the right support services for you. Alternatively, you could choose to self-manage.
How can I receive funding?
To receive funding by the NDIS, you have to apply and be found eligible. You can check your eligibility via the NDIS website here. If you meet the criteria, you can apply and ask to become a NDIS Participant.
To make things easier for you, we have broken down the process in 4 steps you will need to undertake in order to receive funding – have a look below.
1. Check your eligibility
There are a few things you need in order to be eligible for the NDIS:
- I am aged between 7 and 65
- I am an Australian resident and residing in Australia
- I need some supports because of my disability
3. Provide evidence
As part of your Access Request, the NDIS is likely to ask for evidence of your disability.
You will need to work with your doctor and other health practitioners to provide your evidence of disability.
4. Access decision
When you have provided all necessary information, the NDIS will make a decision about whether you are eligible.
You will receive a letter informing you of their decision.
If you are found eligible in your Access Decision, you will be contacted to arrange a planning meeting to discuss your support and funding needs. Get in touch with Candice's House and we will help you get started with receiving supports.
If you are found not eligible, you can still get information and help to access supports and services in your community. Candice's House & Candice Care also offer Fee-For-Service supports, meaning you can receive our services without using government funding.
